Shakespeare App Reviews

Too many ads

Ads everywhere you look, telling you to spend $10 on the pro version. Ruins the reading experience.

Far Far Far too many ads

I cant begin to tell you how bad all of the Upgrade to Pro messages highlighted in red completely destroy this product. The developer should be ashamed!!

Do not upgrade to pro within the app

I upgraded to Shakespeare Pro within the app and it does not register that I purchased it. I have an iTunes receipt that said I did but have to wait 48 hours for iTunes support to contact me to figure out what happened. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling. Nothing except a request for me to upgrade to pro! Not happy about having to wait to enjoy my purchase.

Shakespeares presentation needs design!

Thank you for the free presentation of the immortal texts, but the Bards lines merit better treatment. An ascetic design would suite better some XX century poetry than the Renaissance genius. The design makes it boring to read, though Shakespeare is far from being boring as an author... Pity.

Guys, whats wrong with the app?! After the last update that prbly was intended to make the app with the 3.0 OS, it just doesnt launch. Fix it pls.

Bello

Proprio bello. Ed è pure gratis...

Excellent app!

With this app I can recall & enjoy my favorite plays and other works.

Upgrade took away features!! Added adverts, a horrible banner, etc.

This *was* a wonderful app for the occasional Shakespeare read. Alas, its first "upgraded" to include a distracting large red banner across the top of the screen, one that stayed in place while you were reading the plays. That was both visually irritating and distracting, but also interfered with reading in the evening or at night when one wants to have a darker screen. [This has been replaced by a black and grey banner, an improvement, but still stays permanently in place-- at the top of every page of every play!] The app was much more professional, and aesthetically pleasing, when they simply had a small red upgrade button in the upper right-hand part of the screen when you were looking at the titles of the plays. Whats more, they took away the ability to search ALL of the plays for particular terms, phrases, or words. Instead now, it only searches so far, shows a few results, and then it stops indicating there are scores of other results, but that you can only see them if you upgrade. Advertising and greed have rep, aced what was once an inviting app. As Portia put it in the Merchant of Venice, "My mind was never yet more mercenary"-- how aptly she doth described the developers! Theyve also now filled the settings screen, where you go to select different fonts, font sizes, and colors, with many other features-- each of them with upgrade notices and again red bold SCREAMING buttons as adverts. Sure, the original settings choices are there but you have to scroll way down the screen. This is simply tawdry! Instead of encouraging people to upgrade, its driving many of us to look for other Shakespeare play apps. I understand the reasons for doing this – wanting to capitalize on their Shakespearean app – but taking away features and adding irritating ad banners cheapens it all. Even the upgrade at $10 is too steep. By the way, if they were going to entice people for that kind of money, they should at least have options for how to turn pages – meaning that we wouldnt have to scroll up and down the page, but could instead simply tap on the right side of the screen to advance by page (or the left, to go back).

Scam

Paid for Pro update but didnt get it. Then when I tried to download I was charged again. Now I cant update Pro because the iTunes Store reimbursed the 2nd $9.95 I was charged. Is this a scam?

Cant search for quotes; text. Thats ridiculous!

This new update crashes the app. It took forever to load.

Essential

Get the complete works of one of the greatest authors of all time, with tons of useful extras. I upgraded to the pro version and its worth every penny. I love being able to search all the plays to find where that great line appeared and tapping on strange words to get an instant explanation. Thanks so much for making this. Its a real gift to the world.

Crashes with the new update

This was a great app and would have received five stars, but it wont even open now. Needs a fix immediately.

Please fix!

Love app but new version crashes with iOS 8 — wont even open. Thanks

A worthy head is this!

Full commendations and great worth shall I ascribe to thee henceforth!

Deleted after awful money grab

Deleted off my phone after finding my existing features were removed and ten dollars were demanded in ransom to return them. Very poor form, app author. Watch your usage plummet.

I detest nag screens

I really, really hate vendors that throw up nag screens asking for ratings. Its bad enough in their own apps, but unconscionable to use the notification system for nagging. Apple clearly didnt design it for that purpose. So heres my rating: one star. You asked for it, you got it.

Go with something else

Used to like this a lot-- until it was made intolerable by an "update" that removed features and put a permanent red banner at the top inviting me to pay $10.00 to un-hose my previously delightful app. Not. Cool.

Clearly the best Shakespeare app on the market

Love this app. Have used it on my phone for four some years. Could be faster and tailored for iOS 7, but its clearly the best app for Shakespeare on the iPhone so cheers to it!

Ye olde bait and switch

About a month after purchase a screaming red bar appears blocking off part of your screen and wont go away until you buy the $9.99 version. Otherwise its nifty.
